Organize. Plan. Execute.
MY APPROACH
I think big picture and can imagine how decisions will play out in the future. I’m systematic and highly organized. I can take very complex projects and break the mountain into small rocks. This makes it much easier to evaluate the scope, level of effort, capacity, deadlines, and plan accordingly.
PROJECT VISION
Communication with the stakeholders is key to understand what the successful outcome should be. For smaller projects this can be as simple as in take of a creative brief. For larger projects I've found that having a kickoff meeting, workshops, a go to market document can be really helpful to understand the project and collaborate on that vision. Often I would facilitate workshops with a stakeholder and creatives, both design and editorial, to ideate on what would be appealing direction for the audience of a project.
DESIGN VISION
As part of the management of a project, I found it to be more successful with complex design for the designers to ideate further through research and create mood boards and samples for the stakeholder to react to first so we had time to revise the design strategy.
SCOPE AND SEQUENCING
I have worked with many project management tools, most recently Jira. I would map out each deliverable, often in epics, and create a work back style in creating all the tasks with the appropriate assignee and deadline. The tasks would go through a kanban of stages with a creative review for design critique, then a stakeholder review and approval step before a project is marked as complete. Sounds simple, but when there are multiple stakeholders, writers, designers, multimedia designers with a ton of deliverables this can get messy if someone isn't taking lead on project management to ensure everyone is hitting the deadlines and on the same page.
